Review of Death, Doom, and Detention by Darynda Jones

I am reviewing Death, Doom and Detention by Darynda Jones and I couldn't be happier doing a review for one of my favorite books of ALL TIME! I gave this a Five Stars do to it's witty dialogue, laugh-out-loud moments, the strong connection between Brooklyn, Lorelei, Cameron, Glitch, and Jared. These are some of the most memorable characters I have ever read. This is a YA book full of scorching passionate scenes even though there is no sex, it doesn't mean anything with passion so strong between Lorelei and Jared, you can feel the flames of desire all over the pages.

Blurb

The normal part of Lorelei MacAlister's life didn't just slip away quietly the day Jared Kovach  came to town. Nope. The normal part of her life shattered. It exploded. It burst into a gazillion shards of fleeting light.

It went out with a bang.
Goodbye normal.
Hello dark and eerie.

While her best friend, Brooklyn, is focusing all her energy on helping Lorelei hone her abilities, Lorelei is dealing with the reality that Satan's second in command has taken up residence inside her body. Oh, and the fact that she has a crush on the Angel of Death. But what a beautiful death it is. If those weren't bad enough, something sinister has come to town and it wants nothing more than to hear Lorelei's dying breath as it strangles it out of her. Thank goodness the gang has a supernatural champion. But what happens when the only being who can save them switches sides midstream? How can a group of misfits capture one of the most powerful beings ever created? And will they find out how to bring Jared back to them before it's too late?

Even though this book was a bit darker than the last one, it didn't stop it from being one of the most amazingly well-written books I have read in a long time. Lorelei is a great character full of courage, heart, and goodness. With just a touch of clumsiness too. Brooklyn, now she is fun. She has a knack for lifting her friend's spirits when the times get rough and she knows how to bring laughter to not just her friends, but to us readers as well. Glitch is another friend of both Brooklyn and Lorelei. He likes to skip classes but he is always there for his two best friends when they need a ride or someone to come along and provide moral support when they decide to do a little skipping or trespassing themselves. Cameron is a bit of a grouch. He is also a bit quiet at times and can always be counted on to protect Lorelei when someone is out to get her. Not to mention I think he has a bit of a thing for Miss. Brooklyn. Jared is a dark angel but boy, he makes the dark look GOOD! He was sent to earth to take Lorelei. And I'm not talking about a date. Nope. He was supposed to take her life a little early but he couldn't. He fell for this young beauty full of spirit and kindness. Now he is on her side, protecting her from demons and other evil things out claim her. Be careful of this Angel. He can knock your feet right under you with a smile and can crush you without too much effort. In this installment though, he gets into a bit of trouble and starts acting a bit more evil and not only wants Lorelei, but he is fighting the urge to harm her as well.  In the end they get him back but Lorelei realizes that she must leave her home town to protect everyone she cares about until she can figure out how to handle Satan's second in command. This was a incredible ride. I was constantly on the edge of my seat. Laughing at times, then crying at others. I even sighed dreamily along with Lorelei over the sexy Angel of Death. What a fantastic adventure! The third installment in this Darklight series, is Death and the Girl He Loves coming October and I can't wait for the final book in this incredible YA series.
