Netgalley ARC Review - Altered by Marnee Blake

BLURB:

A new adult romance from Entangled's Embrace imprint...

When "normal" ends, survival begins...

The sickness came on suddenly and violently. When it was done, waitress Blue Michaels was different in a really strange way. And the entire town of Glory was dead...except for her.

Only that's not exactly true. A handful of people made it, including U.S. Army Specialist Seth Campbell, who was caught in the wrong town at the worst time. He's fierce and protective, and way too good-looking. As much as they need a leader—as much as Blue wants to trust him—there are too many questions and not enough time for answers. Now they are hunted. But what their pursuers don't know is each of them has strange new powers. And they'll use their "gifts" to survive...no matter who stands in their way.

MY REVIEW:

I was really looking forward to reading this story after checking out the blurb. In the last few years I got heavily into post-apocalyptic romances and thought this one would be wonderful! Sadly I wasn't into it as I thought I would be. I found it a bit hard to follow and it lacked...feeling to me. It did have a ton of activity going on but the romance side didn't feel as good as I was hoping it would. The characters are a good combination of interesting and intense, but the story wasn't as thick and intriguing. I found myself reading this book with a few yawns and blurry eyes. Even though it did have some moments that brought me awake, I found it hard to keep my interest through the whole book.

Altered, sadly, gets only a TWO STARS for me. I REALLY wanted to not just like the book, but to LOVE it but I did not find that with this story. The blurb was perfect and I did indeed enjoy the cover but the story itself lacked a bit. I am not speaking to ALL readers out there and I definitely wouldn't say I don't recommend it, because I for one know that everyone is different and I am sure there will be LOTS of readers who will no doubt enjoy this book. But this book just wasn't for me.
