Excerpt

With everyone thinking I was angry, I was taking a wild guess that it would be at least thirty minutes before anyone realized I was gone. That was a good head start. From the vague vibe I was feeling from Jess and the other traitors, I was looking at covering a distance of about four miles. I ran that nearly every morning, and the time it took to get there would allow my wolf and me time to figure out what we were going to do when we got there.

Cutting the bitch was what my wolf wanted to do, and I couldn't honestly say that I wasn't on board with that plan, but I was smart enough to know that I couldn't take on eight werewolves on my own. I would have to find their hideout and come back with my pack. Bringing Phoenix and his clan to watch my back in case any of my wolves were really on Jessica's side was a smart thing to do, so I would let them come, too, not that I would really get a choice in the matter; I doubted he would stay behind even if I begged him to.

A loud clatter had my head whipping around to look behind me again. An aluminum trash can lay on its side, its contents spilling into the street. A tabby cat peeked around the edge of the torn trash bag and I exhaled in relief. I was a sad case, indeed. I laughed at myself. I was not used to being the monster.

"I aim to change that, Mena."

I rolled my eyes at my wolf. "You just be you and let me be me and we'll get along just fine."

Soft laughter filled my head and I had to smile. I had to admit that I liked her, regardless of how much trouble she was causing me with Phoenix. At least we had come to a compromise. I didn't know how well said compromise was going to work out, or even if it would at all, but I was willing to try. Everyone deserved a shot at happiness, even with as insane as our case may be.

As I turned my head back around to continue on my journey, I ran smack-dab into the hard chest of a man. He was in shadow, so I couldn't see his face. Stumbling back, I attempted to get my balance, but his arms closed tightly around my body, jerking me to him and trapping my arms down at my sides so I couldn't move.

Struggling against his solid hold on me, I opened my mouth to let out a scream, but he twisted me around and clamped a hand over my mouth so fast that I didn't know what was happening until I was being pulled backward, away from the security of the streetlights that lined the suburban road.

I raised my knee up then brought my foot down hard on the toe of his shoe. He let out a muffled grunt, but continued to drag me into the shadows.

This had to be one of the werewolves. The strength alone told me that. They had to have been watching my house, just waiting for me to leave. This bastard was going to kill me if I didn't do something.

My wolf stirred under my skin. She wanted out and it was the first time since I'd been bitten that I agreed with that plan. With only a little more than human strength and quick reflexes, it wasn't possible for me to handle a grown male werewolf on my own.

My final option, before letting my wolf free, was try to at least injure him. I hoped that would be enough to make him loosen his grip on me enough so I could run. If he gave chase, I would have to concede and let my wolf take over.

Gripping the dagger tighter in my palm, I rotated my wrist and drove the blade into his side as hard as I could. An ear-piercing ululation erupted from his throat and he let go of me. I didn't wait or look back. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, adrenaline and my wolf giving me the speed and strength to push my muscles past what a human would be able to endure.

"Mena… Mena!" I heard the cry behind me, but my mind wasn't registering anything except panic and the need to get as far away from my attacker as possible. "Mena—wait! It's me…" A strangled groan had me slowing. "…it's… it's Phoenix. I—I'm so sorry, Mena."

I froze, not wanting to look back at the man, terrified that what he'd spoken was true. If it was—if I turned and saw those ice-blue eyes staring back at me, it would destroy any trust I had ever had in him.

"Please, Mena, I never meant to hurt you. I was only trying to scare you so you would realize what a stupid stunt going off on your own to find the killers was. What were you thinking?"

The blood rushed through my veins at an impossible speed, and fury washed over me in waves as I stood there trying to decide whether to walk away or allow my wolf to rip Phoenix's head off. She was all for the second option.

I heard him cough, and then groan in agony. I imagined he was pulling the dagger out of whatever organ I had been lucky enough to hit. There was a lot of heavy, ragged breathing and two more guttural-sounding coughs. It appeared as though I had hit a lung. Too bad it wasn't his heart! I wasn't sure stabbing him in the heart with a silver blade would kill him, but I would have put money on a bet that it would have been a hell of a lot more painful.

I turned my head to glare at him, but the hatred I had expected to feel wasn't there. He had fallen to his knees, and his head was bent, his eyes focused on the bright red stain spreading across his new shirt.

Shaking my head, I looked up to the sky and asked, "Why me?" After receiving no answer, I sighed and began the one-hundred-meter walk back to Phoenix.

MY REVIEW:

Midnight Moonrising took me for a ride I will never forget! I loved Mena since the prequel, Accepting The Moon. Now that Mena has a bad ass wolf inside her, and she is the alpha of her pack, things REALLY get interested. I freaking LOVED the twists and turns in this story. Things really heat up Midnight  Moonrising that was both exhilarating and wickedly delicious. The fact that Mena is such a strong character was thrilling for me. And we get several strong and sexy males that are after Mena's affections. Honestly, by time I finished this book I was just stunned and amazed at all the dynamics that went into the story and characters. Kristie Haigwood and Anne Conley work splendidly together and I was beyond satisfied with the the story, from beginning to end.

With the many different things that are going on, all sorts of readers will be entertained and find this to be a VERY good read. Its well worth every penny you pay for it and is worth re reading over and over again. I was stunned and happy with the length of the story. Nothing was left out or missing and everything fell perfectly together.

I couldn't think of giving this anything then what it deserves and that is a whopping FIVE SHOOTING STARS!! Its sexy, nail-biting, and on the edge of your seat good! If you love vampires, werewolves, some amazing characters, and an awesomely written story, then you will fall in love with Midnight Moonrising!

  STT Teaser 2

MY REVIEW:

I am BEYOND thrilled to have read and reviewed Cherise  Sinclair's Servicing The Target. First off, I have been in love with this series since Club Shadowlands and have absolutely LOVED...yes LOVED each and every one of the books in The Masters of The Shadowlands. I wasn't expecting to get a book in this series featuring the famous Mistress Anne, but after reading her and Ben's story, I am SOOOOO glad there was. I knew starting this story I would like it, but what I wasn't expecting was to not only enjoy it thoroughly, but to end up  LOVING both Mistress Anne and Ben!

I was surprised by Mistress Anne. In previous books when we got glimpses of her, she seemed so aloof and so damn intimidating. I almost expected to find her to be tough and maybe a bit selfish. That is NOT at all what I got when I read Servicing The Target though. Instead I found a person who is caring, strong, compassionate, and the most amazing female character as of yet. We also learned the whys behind her becoming a Domme and why all of a sudden she seemed...different in the last couple of books. I freaking couldn't believe how much I wished this story went on longer, just to read more about her.

Now Ben, he was another character that threw me off guard. I half expected to find him to be a pushover and a wimp, especially since he was chasing after one of the most well known Mistresses that the club had. Yet instead of a wimp, I found a super strong and self assured man who knew what he wanted and was determined to get it, which in this case was the Mistress of his dreams. He was not only strong of mind and body, but he had a heart of gold and wasn't really a submissive outside the bedroom, in fact even in the bedroom you could definitely sense that he  wasn't a mere submissive. His thoughtfulness toward Anne and his innate kindness and big heart, matched Anne's perfectly and I found that both these people deserved each other and I was so happy that they got together.

Miss Sinclair knows BDSM AND romance like no one's business! I have read almost ALL her books because she knows her way around the scenes as well as knows the meaning and definition of love. With Servicing The Target, we see things that are thrilling, exciting, and will just melt your heart. Mistress Anne and Ben are the PERFECT match! I LOVED the writing and all the dynamics of the story. I wanted SO BAD to give this a TEN SHOOTING STARS, but the dang rating system won't let me, so I will settle with giving it the most stars it allows and that is AN AMAZING FIVE SHOOTING STARS!! I was thrilled with this book and am so glad there will be at least one and if we are REALLY lucky, maybe more in this series. For those that love a great book with the delicious BDSM scenes and characters with outstanding personalities with the romance we all swoon over, then Servicing The Target is FOR YOU!!! Come see why I not only recommend this, but MANY other readers and reviewers as well.

Miami Heat (Pay It Forward 1) by TL Reeve ARC Review!

BLURB:

A trip to Miami for a blind date--what could go wrong?

Violet Wilson is a book lover at heart. As a librarian she loves her job and quite frankly no one else, from her prospective, could do it better. The only downside for being such a voracious reader, she has a high expectation of men.

Violet needs to let her hair down, embrace life and have fun--something her best friend Kate is willing to help her with. After an afternoon lunch with her best friend, she is handed a plane ticket and a hotel reservation to Miami. However, there is a catch...her date.

Roman Carpino isn’t looking for love. He has his tattoo parlor, his friends and several different women whenever he needs or wants a companion. To him, his life is golden. But, given the chance to take a vacation on his friend’s dime, he relents. What he isn't expecting however, is his date, Violet.

With a weekend to spend together, will they find what each desires most--or will a friendly gesture damage two lives forever?

MY REVIEW:

A romance featuring a woman who LOOOOOVES books, goes on vacation and falls for a sexy bad boy with tattoos? OH HELL YEA!! I ADORED Violet because like me, she has a thing for books and sexy guys with tattoos.  I thought this story was fun, sassy, and of course, wickedly delicious! A trip to Miami ends up to be the best trip for Roman and Violet.

I love how Miss Reeves writes her stories, with passion and characters readers can relate to and fall in love with.  Miami Heat is is the kind of book once you start, can finish in one sitting. They are addictive and smoldering with the kind of sensuality we can only find in a book written by TL Reeve. This new series, Pay It Forward will be a HIT with those readers who enjoy books by Shayla Black or Lexi Blake.

I gave Miami Heat a FIVE SHOOTING STARS!! I loved the plot, characters, and the general story all around.

A Soldier's Gift (Beyond Valor 1) by Lynne St. James ARC Review!

BLURB:

In book one of Beyond Valor: Beth’s life changed forever with one phone call. An accident leaves her ex-husband and daughter fighting for their lives. Putting her life on hold, she spends most of her time in the hospital with her daughter, praying she’ll pull through while her ex’s condition goes downhill, forcing her to make one of the hardest decisions of her life.
Lieutenant Thomas “Mac” MacDonald pulls three of his unit’s soldiers from their burning Humvee after a roadside bomb explodes in Afghanistan. He sustains a severe head injury that leaves him believing he’s dying, until he wakes up stateside alive but blind.
Meeting Beth while volunteering at the hospital after his discharge he is instantly attracted to her. As Mac struggles to come to grips with what life has dealt him, he finds his thoughts continuously turning to a woman he barely knows.
Beth tries hard to deny the attraction she feels for Mac, and focuses her energy on her daughter’s recovery. But no matter how they fight it, their feelings for each other grow.
Can Beth overcome the need to shield her heart and let Mac in? Can Mac conquer his fear that she’ll turn him away when she finds out who’s responsible for him regaining his sight? And are they able to let the walls they’ve built around their hearts fall, allowing a soldier’s gift to bring them the love they both deserve?

MY REVIEW:

A Soldier's Gift is the first book in Lynne St. James's NEW Series, Beyond Valor. I don't usually get into a lot of books featuring soldiers, but with Lynne St. James I knew I will get a good read. I didn't expect however to get MORE though, yet I did with A Soldier's Gift. This story was heartbreaking, sweet, and showed the kind of spirit soldiers have after getting injured. I found myself crying and cheering for Beth and Mac as well as for Beth's daughter.

Even though we have some seriously wickedly hot sex, I absolutely ADORED the fact that this story was set around  a soldier's recovery as well as the romance between Beth and Mac. I sighed a lot as I was reading and was amazed with Mac's determination and strength as well as Beth's strong character as she fights the loss of her ex, the recovery of her daughter, as well as the love and lust that blooms between herself and the wounded soldier that seems to have stolen her heart. I am also incredibly intrigued with Mac's best friend and fellow wounded soldier, Tag, as well as with Beth's best friend, Julie. I sincerely hope that Tag's and Julie's story is next. I can say for sure that I am addicted 100% to James's new series!

I wanted to give this book at least a Seven or Eight Stars, but since they don't have that kind of rating system I gave it the highest there was which is an OUTSTANDING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! Its a fascinating, sweet story with strength, determination, and the fight for both love and life. It's completely breathtaking and definitely puts you in the shoes of wounded soldiers and I was amazed to read such a unique and beautiful story. Bravo Lynne St. James. Bravo.

EVERY LAST BREATH Excerpt
Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie, look…look at your hand.”
Look at my hand? Why in the world would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?
“Do it,” he said quietly and too gently.
The dread exploded in my gut like buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.
“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I had shifted.
Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”
“What about my wings?” I almost screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand jerked back. “What…”
Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to look in it.”
I met Roth’s gaze for a second before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.
I looked normal, like I did before I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what caught my attention and held it.
It was my wings.
They were large, not as massive as Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny feathers.
Feathers.
“Oh my God,” I whispered at my reflection. “I have feathers.”
“Those are definitely feathered wings,” Roth commented.
I whipped around, knocking over a lamp with my feathered right wing. “I have feathers on my wings!”
Roth cocked his head to the side. “Yeah, you do.”
He was absolutely no help, so I turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”
Zayne shook his head slowly. “I don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”

Trish looked up and touched the side of his cheek. “Will you sleep with me, Alek?”

Sucking in a sharp breath, Alek was instantly hard. “That would be a really bad idea.”

“Why?” she asked.

“Why?” he sputtered. “I don’t know where to begin with the reasons why this is a bad idea.”

“Listen, Alek, I haven’t had much experience,” Trish admitted. “That time with you was the only time I’ve ever climaxed with a partner.”

Alek opened his mouth, but all that came out was a strange gurgling sound.

The woman actually laughed at him. “You look ridiculous. Is this all it would have taken to get you to back off a month ago? Are you one of those guys who only want a woman who’s a challenge?”

“I prefer women who aren’t a challenge,” he admitted. “You’re an exception. That has nothing to do with the reason I think this is a bad idea. I’m not going to take advantage of you when you’re recovering from a serious injury. You’ve had some terrible shocks in the last couple of days.”

“Believe it or not, I’m just asking you to sleep,” she said. “I’m freaked out and emotional. I watched my father die today, and I don’t want to be alone.”

Alek was more than a little embarrassed about his assumption. “Of course. I don’t know what I was thinking.”

“You were thinking you’re an attractive man who has women throw themselves at him all the time. Bet not a lot of women invite you to their bed for reasons other than sex.”

“True, but I should have known you weren’t planning to seduce me.”

“I wouldn’t even know where to start,” she admitted. “Seduction isn’t something I have a lot of experience with.”

“You were doing fine when you told me I’m the only man you’d ever climaxed with,” he confessed. “That got me thinking about all sorts of other ways I want to make you climax.”

The shy smile she gave him made him even harder, something she must have noticed while sitting on his lap. “Good, because I do plan to seduce you, just not tonight.”
